[SystemSafety] help in Barcelona Spain

Dear Les,

I´m glad you like so much Barcelona and Catalunya (it is one of the most
beautiful regions of Spain); but I think you are mistaken when saying “in
visiting Barcelona you are going to Catalunya not Spain”.

I think I will put an example for you to understand. It is the same as if
someone would say to a Brisbane Australian guy like you that “in visiting
Queensland you are going to Wakka Wakka lands not Australia” (FYI
 Wakka
Wakka is an aboriginal tribe in Queensland, Australia). I understand that
being at “Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary”, surrounded by the wilderness beauty
of Flat Rock Creek and listening to the enchanting rithms of the
“didgeridoos” could inspire anyone to say such stupid thing; but you and me
know that, right ?

Please keep this helpful and interesting forum for what it is meant to be.

Thank you.

Agustin

P.S.: Andy, try the old town (“Barrio Gótico”) around the Cathedral,
“Montjuic” and “La Sagrada Familia”. Just wander around following the steps
of Gaudi. And simply enjoy watching people passing by sitting at a terrace
of any “cafeteria” of “La Rambla”. Have fun !

Andy

Barcelona is a great choice for a holiday though five days is probably not
enough. I tried to do it in seven and ended up extending to 11. I documented
my visit here:

Be advised that in visiting Barcelona you are going to Catalunya not Spain.

Antoni Gaudí's Cathedral Sagrada Família was the highlight. It's the most
amazing piece of architecture I have ever seen.

The other thing I loved about Barcelona was the dancing in the streets as
you will see in my blog. The Catalonians love their land. They are
possessing of and possessed. It is in their poetry, songs and dances; around
every corner and in every town square, written in the simple steps passed
from one generation to the next, eternal and unconquerable. Their Catalan
dialect says a lot with little. A sixteenth century poet monk expressed it
with a simple quatrain:

L’Emigrant

Dolça Catalunya, (sweet Catalunya)

patria del meu cor, (homeland of my heart)

quan de tu s’allunya, (to be far from you)

d’enyorança es mor. (is to die of longing)

RE: Safety

Barcelona is famous for its pickpockets. I was hit twice in one day (refer
my blog). Leave nothing in your pockets especially in well trodden tourist
areas. Don't leave anything dangling down that can be grabbed, for example
camera straps. These two incidents wouldn't stop me from going back though.
I love the place.

Cheers

Les

I do not know if this is appropriate, so I apologize in advance. I am
seeking advice about what to see and where to stay (area or hotel) in
Barcelona Spain. I have not been there before but will be staying 5 nights
and 5 days. I will be arriving on a cruise ship.
