Further to the history of risk ...
No question , the equations of probability are beautiful but the visceral
elements of risk management can only be learnt in the moment. You'll find an
excellent classroom on a yacht in a storm with an experienced skipper. They
learn the simple truths of risk management from an early age: "... think
about it before you do it."
Right now there is a compelling case study unfolding in the Southern Ocean.
Lisa Blair, a solo yachtswoman intent on being the first woman to
circumnavigate Antarctica, is rolling the dice, approaching Cape Horn from
